Peter's #Thought4TheWeek-Have you used the summer wisely to refresh yourself?

Ok, I admit it.

I was very very tired by the end of July, far more than I realised. Mentally and physically the last two and a half years had finally caught up with me and I needed a break.

The great news was that we finally got to visit our youngest daughter Hazel and the family in Northern Ireland after three years of trials and cancellations. Notwithstanding my actions of nearly wrecking the time before we started (ask me how I popped my hamstring two hours into the first day… oops!) Anny and I had a lovely time…

And I have spent nearly the whole of August not working (other than the necessary stuff) and just tried to chill out and enjoy family life.

Family for me is why we do what we do.

I have to say our larger family (those of you in the Practice for instance) took a back seat at this time whilst I recharged my batteries and enjoyed all those things you like to do on holiday.

But I did have a nagging doubt…

As we left for Northern Ireland, I received my first payment as a pensioner (wow free pennies at sixty-six years of age!) …terrific, but it also conjured up many questions as to how I want my life to move forward.

All my instincts were telling me that we need to make changes for the practice and for ourselves personally. You know one of those smell the wind times where change is to happen, I guess (cue for a John Williams piece of film music maybe…)

The trouble was I was so tired that I simply couldn’t work out what was needed.

They say time is a great leveller and during the four weeks or so sure enough my brain cleared, and I have some new things we are going to put into place – evolution, not revolution, I would say that, wouldn’t I?

Look out for the changes in the coming days!

What’s the point, Peter?

We are coming into silly season where it goes mad for around twelve weeks then most business drops off a cliff for Christmas. Frankly, if you are not up to the job during this period you are far more likely to make poor decisions that could cost you a great deal.

So, if you are tired right now and haven’t had the chance, I urge you to make the time to recharge your batteries so that you can last the journey until the end of the year.

And make the right decisions for yourself and those you hold dear.

BTW I have introduced a simple tip of the week by request and this quarter it is on the most important of matters in business – TRUST.

Take note below and do look out for our new initiatives – you won’t be disappointed!

The Family Business Practice is a vibrant learning and development community full of great people and businesses who in many cases give of their time and expertise to help others, PLUS do business together where appropriate!
